286 Comparison of subcision vs subcision-suction for treatment of acne scars: A split-face randomized controlled trial

Surgical treatment with subcision is a standard therapy for acne scars. Other resurfacing procedures, including suctioning microdermabrasion, also offer clinical improvement. This randomized, split-faced study sought to compare the effectiveness of alone rolling Patients were randomized receive on one side face, and suction using microdermabrasion device opposite side. Suction continued daily, except weekends, total two weeks. Patient photos collected at baseline, 1- 4-months assess scarring via Acne Severity Scale (AS), Scar Improvement Grading (ASIGS), Quantitative Global Scarring Grades (MQGSG) scale. Adverse events patient preferences collected. Of 18 enrolled participants, 14 completed study. While there was no significant difference in AS scores as assessed by dermatologists or participants between types, significantly lower (1.8, dermatologist: p=0.02; 2.0, patient: p=0.005) subcision-suction (1.9, p=0.03; p=0.002) compared baseline. Participant ASIGS 1-month higher (37% improvement) (23%; p=0.04). Dermatologist MQGSG (6.2) baseline (6.5; Treatment groups did not differ incidence adverse events. More patients preferred (43%) over (21%). Subcision-suction appears provide advantage scar reduction 1-month, but this maintained 4 months. Further studies may clarify how if relative benefit be made more durable.
